Timothy Eric Parker — television producer, puzzle editor, brain-games creator, author and entrepreneur — grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, one of nine siblings, and attempted his first crossword at age 12.
He attended the prestigious Gilman School, excelling in both football and baseball; at 16 he was recruited by the Pittsburgh Pirates, but chose a different path. In 1996 his dual expertise in computers and crosswords converged when he created the world’s first digital syndicated crossword — the Universal Crossword — and invented the “Solve Word,” “Solve Letter,” and “Solve Puzzle” buttons now standard on virtually every online crossword in existence.
In May 2000, Guinness World Records named him The World’s Most Syndicated Puzzle Compiler — a title he has held for 25+ years, and the only person in history to carry the designation Guinness World Records Puzzle Master. He became senior crossword editor of USA Today for 13 years and, in 2001, the first crossword editor in the 100-year history of Reader’s Digest. In 2006, Merv Griffin — creator of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune — personally chose Parker as the sole writer of all 225 episodes of his final show. Today, as founder and CEO of The Advanced Learning Academy, he has built the world’s first IBM Quantum™-verified IQ test and the ParkerCognition suite of cognitive credentials.
30 years, fully documented.
Verified achievements from 1996 to 2026.
